University of Galway has closed eight Master's and undergraduate programmes for the September 2026 intake — primarily in Health Sciences, Psychology, and Education. Here is the full list and comparable open programmes elsewhere in Ireland.

On 6 May 2026, the University of Galway International Office advised its agent partners — including The Mentors Circle — that eight programmes have been closed for the September 2026 intake. The closures span clinical and biomedical research, psychology, and teaching qualifications. Existing offer-holders are unaffected. For students still planning to apply, this guide lists the affected programmes and the closest comparable courses at Trinity College Dublin, UCD, RCSI, UCC, DCU and Maynooth that remain open.

What changed

Galway has closed applications for eight programmes commencing September 2026. The cluster sits primarily in three areas:

  • Health sciences & clinical research — Clinical Research, Regenerative Medicine, Cellular Manufacturing & Therapy, Clinical Neuroscience.
  • Psychology & behavioural science — Health Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis, BSc Psychology (UG).
  • Teaching — Professional Master of Education (PME).

If you already hold an offer letter for any of the above, your seat is unaffected. Only new applications are blocked.
